THIS TERMWEEKLY UPDATE January 9th to 13th. HAPPY NEW YEAR and once again so many thanks for the kind words, cards, good wishes, gifts and the collection you contributed to. We all appreciate these very much Easter Holiday dates – We close on Friday 7th April at 4p.m. and reopen on Wed 19th April. The nursery staff team have decided to extend the amount of time the children spend out of doors, because of health and wellbeing, and also government directives of three hours of physical activity for under-fives per day, along with the knowledge that we are very lucky to have our amazing garden area, and need to use it more. So from now on, each morning the children will go straight out to play in the garden, when they arrive, and be out until snack time at 10 ish. They will then for the most part return outside until lunch time, and again have a long session from 2-3.30 in the afternoons. All areas of the curriculum can be covered with outside play and staff note children’s wellbeing and involvement and exploring/science skills are better utilised in the garden. The older and younger children will mix more as well. We are fully embracing Forest school. Nisha and Syrie will be training in Forest school Level three this year. THIS MEANS WE REALLY NEED YOUR CHILD TO BE DRESSED FOR THE LONGER PERIODS THEY WILL SPEND OUTSIDE. THEY NEED GLOVES, HATS, SCARVES, WARM SOCKS AND SPARES OF GLOVES TOO. THEY NEED A WATERPROOF PADDED/WARM COAT. SOME PARENTS BUY A SPARE TATTIER COAT FROM A CHARITY SHOP OR PRIMARK AND LEAVE IT HERE. We will be looking to increase our stock of warm padded all in ones. If it is dry the children will wear their outdoor shoes rather than wellingtons as the latter are quite cold. We will be going over our outdoor safety rules with the children. We are also going to put the Big and Small room timetables on the exterior notice board near the front door so you can see what your child is doing each day in their room. Your child may bring home a stuffed toy fox for the weekend. It will be accompanied by a letter explaining that it is coming to spend the weekend and we will need to know what it did over that time. This will make each child connect nursery with their home life and they can use the prop of the fox to relate their home life to their peers, which is good for extending their communication and language skills. So if Foxy comes to your house don’t forget to give us a note about what you did that weekend. We still appreciate your weekly updates on home life as well. They are invaluable for understanding children’s interests and planning for their further play and development. Small room will be making regular visits to Harriet’s sing along so I will be sending out permission forms for these trips this term. The Big Room will have trips relating to their interest and we will inform you of these as they arise. We will have a few students with us this term.

DECEMBER NEWSLETTER.

The Annual General meeting is a legal requirement, as we are both a charity and a limited company. We will present the accounts for the previous year and also a report from both Chair and the manager. Then the Management committee will stand down and a new one elected. Some of the current team will stand again ( and their expertise is much appreciated) and all other parents are most welcome to stand .
The AGM is on Thursday December 8th at 6p.m. The first part is a social time with a chance to look at displays and chat to staff and other parents. Please bring a dish to share. Then from 7 we have the reports and election.

On Tues. 13th December Sigrid’s mum will be holding a Swedish Breakfast and you are all most welcome. From 9a.m. This will coincide with St Lucia’s day – a very important Christmas festival for Swedes.

The children have had a busy term, and are now very s settled in their new rooms. The small room all settled quickly and are developing relationships and also their self help skills and independence. They have enjoyed going to soft play and the Calthorpe project this term.
The Big Room have had various trips supporting their topic of The Human Body and this topic has been very interesting. The topics chosen are always reflecting the children’s own interests. We hope to have more trips out during the New Year.

The staff will be holding LINKS meetings through December, so do please approach them to arrange a date and time. This does not apply to children who were new this term as they have already had their meetings.

WEEKLY Update Parents Nov 14th 18th.

Big thanks to Charlotte’s mum Alex for coming in to run an art session in big room, and to Iola’s Uncle for coming in to talk to big room about submarines ( as he works on one). Ash’s mum has offered to come in, in December to ice some gingerbread. If you want to come in to read, garden, draw, craft, dance with the children let us know.
Our show and tell sessions in the big room are very useful for building on children confidence in speaking, and in listening , responding and understanding. Do encourage them to bring in an article, toys or picture relating to a visit into nursery so they c an tell us about it. Please, no VIOLENT toys.
PLEASE also update us by e-mail or via IConnect about what your child has been doing at home. This really helps inform our planning for activities and to reflect the children’s own interests. Many thanks to those of you who already do this.

A NEW TERM

Welcome to nursery or even welcome back.  We opened on the 31st August and hope to see everyone back on the 5th and our new children will be settling next week and also the week of the 12th September. Welcome to all of them.

Don’t forget this term to bring in lots of spare clothes, some outdoor and indoor shoes(slippers) and sun cream  and sun hats before we start asking you for gloves and scarves.

Forest School sessions will be on Tuesdays now. Dance should restart in early October.

Gloria, who was very ill last term returns to us next week and is now job sharing with Tracey.

This term we will have our Annual General Meeting, usually in November, when you can stand for election to the management committee, who decide how the nursery is run. Think about how you could contribute to a committee and stand. There are lots of other ways of helping; you can come in for our gardening sessions during the week or at weekends, offer to cur the grass, offer to come in and read or play with the children. You can bring in a skill to share with then, art, science, music construction, etc. We would love to see you, especially perhaps dads.

We have a welcome to your nursery breakfast on Friday 16th September 9.00 until 10.00 YOu are all most welcome. It is a nice way to get to know each other. On Saturday September 25th we are holding a gardening morning ( start 10.00 a.m.)  followed by lunch ( please bring s pot to share) and play time. Again, everyone is most welcome. On Thursday 29th September we will have a social afternoon 3.30-6.30p.m. for everyone to meet.

Sini, an intern from the EU will start here with us in October. Syrie and Upaia are settling in well and making good relationships with the children. Mary is now here just Mondays and Tuesdays.
